10 unique gift wrapping ideas

Skip the ordinary bows and wrapping paper this year and get creative!  Here are some budget-friendly gift wrapping alternatives you can try this year when you’re wrapping your Christmas gifts!

1. Comics

Comics are colorful and silly – and a great way to recycle your newspaper into something fun and decorative! You can re-use these funny moments on your gifts to make them more fun and way different than the normal red and green paper!

2. Sales Ads

This is something else that comes in your weekly newspaper – and you already paid for it!  You can reuse the add from the store you bought the gift from to give a hint, or just any old ad that you may have laying around. This is an especially fun way to wrap for couponers and savers!

3.  Homework

What a great way to really personalize and show off your children’s abilities and smarts! Use their old homework (or colored photo copies) as gift wrap to make any special gift even more amazing! My niece lives on the other side of the country, and getting a present wrapped in her schoolwork was a nice treat and great way to receive something so special!

4.  Balloons

Balloons are a very unique way to gift an item. It sounds strange, but on Valentine’s Day, you’ll see balloons stuffed with teddy bears and other treats. Why not do this for the holidays?  It may not be quite as easy to shove a bear in a balloon, but it’s the perfect idea for jewelry or a little trinket. Just stick the item into the balloon, blow it up and decorate it!

5.   Colorful Pillowcase or Old Clothing

What a great way to get some use out of that old thing in the closet.   We all have clothes that we rarely wear, if at all, and it’s a very smart way to wrap a few of your gifts.  Its a durable wrap, and you could even make a bow or two out of the scraps left over.

6. Scarves

Wrapping a gift in a scarf is an awesome way to give two gifts in one.   A beautiful scarf wrapped nicely around a box holding some jewelry, or clothing that matches would be a fantastic pair. To hold the scarf in place on the package, use a matching broach to pin it, or wrap a bracelet or necklace around it to secure it.

7. Family Pictures

If you have a small package, it is great to personalize it to the max. Grab some digital photos and print them out onto regular paper and use the paper as a wrap. Most gifts are in boxes that traditionally wouldn’t be small enough for a single sheet of paper, so you may need to use multiple.  You can also wrap the gift in butcher paper of any color and add the photo rather than a bow.

8. Jars

Jars are a neat way to showcase a gift when it’s not a complete surprise. You can roll a scarf and place it in a jar, or you can throw in your family secret spice combination for chili. The possibilities are endless for this commonly looked over way of gifting. Plus, mason jars are so popular and used for so many things, it’s like giving 2 gifts in one!

9. Maps

For anyone who loves history, or loves to travel, wrapping their gift in unused maps can be a very creative way to let them really know that you know what they like. If you don’t have maps around the house, AAA gives them out for free, or you could always print them out from your computer.  If you took a trip with a friend or family member that’s receiving the gift, you could highlight the map of your route, too!

10. Cookie Tins

After you’re done eating all of the shortbread cookies, don’t throw away the tin. You can re-use this for any gifts that might fit inside. Just place the gift inside, and wrap a ribbon around the outside. What a great way to fool the person receiving the gift!
