5 Natural Ways to Beat a Cold or Flu Quickly

It’s cold and flu season.  And Texas is being throttled by sickness right now.  When you don’t want to medicate yourself, and have to get to feeling better quickly, here are 5 natural ways to beat a cold or flu FAST!

*Stay Hydrated

Here’s what happens when you stay hydrated while sick – your body is able to easily detoxify pathways that are needed to stimulate the enzymes that help flush out the virus or pathogens that are making you sick.  Basically, the more hydrated you are, the better your body can combat the icky viruses!

Herbal teas like this Traditional Medicinals Tea that I keep stocked up, will really help out in keeping you hydrated, plus offers some comfort for that sore throat and cough.  Lemons, apple cider vinegar and broths can help your immune system, as well and keep you hydrated when you mix them with water.

*Snacks, Not Meals

When you’re sick, your body needs to focus all of its energy on the healing process. When you eat a large meal, your body uses its resources to digest, taking away from that process of fighting the illness.

Snack on immune boosting foods, instead of eating large meals. Things like citrus fruits offer a ton of vitamins AND will help your tummy digest easier.  If you need to eat more than fresh veggies and fruits, opt for protein bars to help keep up your strength.  My favorite is Tiger’s Milk Protein Bars.  They are delicious and give me that energy I need when I’m sick.

*Use Essential Oils

Aromatherapy can do wonders for your immune system.  Essential oils have antiseptic compounds that fight viruses, bacteria and other ickiness. Whether you inhale them directly, massage them on your skin, put them in lotions or your bath, or add them to your diffuser, essential oils are a wonderful way to naturally help you heal.

This Cold & Flu Essential Oil set is absolutely wonderful!  It has all of the great oils you’ll need to get to feeling better quicker.

*Get in the Sun

15-45 minutes of direct sunshine per day is the rule of thumb…for healthy people.  When you’re sick and in bed all day, chances are the sun won’t be reaching you.  If you can get outside and absorb some sun, your body will thank you!  Vitamin D helps detoxify pathways and healthy immune stimulating responses your body needs even more when you’re sick.

If you can’t get outside, consider grabbing some vitamin D in pill form. For maximum efficiency, take it with a small amount of healthy, fatty oil so it can absorb quickly.

*Laugh

It’s simple.  When you laugh, healthy enzymes are released into your body.  You need those to keep your spirits up and keep your immune system working properly.  So, laugh!  One of the best natural ways to beat a cold or flu is releasing those healthy vibes into your body. Watch some funny sit-coms on TV, read a book that makes you giggle, call a friend that can always put a smile on your face….whatever you need to do, get yourself laughing and you’ll feel better in no time.  Healthy mind, healthy body, right?
