Every year, I try and think of ways to celebrate Black History Month with my kids that will leave a lasting impression on them as they grow older. So I decided to look into this a little more and here are a few ideas I came up with for you and your family to observe this important month.

See the Dallas Black Dance Theatre (DBDT) perform
This dance company is featuring the Cultural Awareness Series February 19-21. DBDT celebrates Black History Month with the world premiere of a new piece by former Ailey Dancer, Kirven Douthit-Boyd, as well as some stunning works from the company repertoire. And stay after the curtain closes for premium post-performance activities.

The performances are taking place at Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center and tickets start at under $30.

Make a Craft or Color with Your Younger Children
You can head to Pinterest or DLTK for some great ideas. This is one of the best ways to engange preschoolers and at least start the conversation about Black History Month with them.

See a play at Jubliee Theatre
This historically black Fort Worth hub of the arts has been in existence since 1981.
Through February 28th, they will feature Seven Guitars, which explores the hope, heartbreak, and heritage of the African-American experience in the twentieth century. In 1948 Pittsburg, a small group of friends gather following the untimely death of Floyd “Schoolboy” Barton, a local blues guitarist who was on the edge of stardom. Together, they reminisce about his short life and discover the unspoken passions and undying spirit that lives within each of them.
