Internet Safety

It is important to teach children about internet safety, but more times than not peer pressure wins out over what children have been taught. We have compiled a list of apps to help you on this journey called “tweenagers and teenagers.”

Nowadays, kids, tweens, and teens have some sort of electronic device. While the younger kids will have a tablet or even their own computer, the older kids may have a cell phone. It is important to teach your kids and internet safety, but there are still ways for hackers to get into their devices without your knowledge.

The online world can be scary and be intimidating for younger users and it is easy for them to think they are downloading their favorite games and it ends up being a spy program. Worse case scenario, they are talking to what they think is a “friend” and ends up being someone who wants to do them harm. Thanks to today’s technology, there are many apps to track phones, monitor what your child is doing online and see who they are talking too. Here are a few of our favorite apps to ensure internet safety for kids.

Internet Safety + Apps To Monitor What Your Child REALLY Does Online

  1. Norton Family Parental Control is an app that is available across PC’s, Android and iPhone devices. This app helps teaches your child internet safety habits while they are browsing around online. Also, with a simple touch, you can know exactly where your children are. *Please note, not all features are available for free*
  2. Net Nanny is a clever app for all devices. With this app, parents can set up boundaries for what their child can and cannot watch. If a child tries to pull up a website with one of the keywords previously determined, Net Nanny lets them know the page has been blocked. Prices start as low as $9 per device.
  3. mSpy is a great app to track a phone and it’s activity. This app is pretty much a jack of all trades! Not only can it monitor a child’s text and call history, but also see where your child is, what type of pictures they are taking, receiving and sending, monitor social media networks and much more. It is available across all devices. Prices start as low as $16.67 a month.
  4. Kids Place is a great app for younger kids that are just starting their venture into the online world. With Kids Place, parents can restrict what apps can be watched and protects personal data. This app is available on Android and iPhone devices.
  5. SecureTeen Parental Control is a must have app on a teenager’s phone. This app will prevent your child from pulling up websites that are mature and have adult content. Also, this app will let parents see what their teen is doing and allows remote shutdown of any app.

With the help of a few simple apps, and texting acronyms every parent should know, it is easy to keep children, teens and tweens safe while browsing around online and texting with their friends.
