Mardi Gras Celebrations in DFW

If you won’t be heading to New Orleans for Mardi Gras this year, don’t worry because Dallas has a long history of enjoying this great celebration!  Here are a few places to get your party on!

OCarnivale Masquerade Ball (Oak Cliff)

This historic Dallas neighborhood becomes a Mardi Gras headquarters each year in early February. A dance will be held at 7 p.m. on Febuary 6th at the Kessler Theater featuring  cajun style food, costumes and general debauchery. Plus, there is a parade the next day, as well as a 1k walk or 5k fun run to benefit area children.

Lake Dallas Mardi Gras

Lake Dallas Mardi Gras takes place outside the Lake Dallas City Hall, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on February 9, 2016. There will be music, parades, contests and lots of Cajun food! Beads will by flying, and the music will be hopping. Plus, there is a crawfish eating contest and mask competition for children. Musicians from New Orleans will be playing authentic Mardi Gras style music, and there will be lots of dancing in the streets.

Dallas Mardi Gras And Festival

Here is a good family event where you can take the children and still have a good taste of a real Mardi Gras celebration. On February 9th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., there will be dancing, food and fun in front of city hall. There will also be traditional Mardi Gras favorites like beignets, gumbo, jambalaya, shrimp po-boys and of course, a chance at a piece of Mardi Gras king cake. The parade begins at noon, and the festival lasts all day.

Mardi Gras Texas Style

Everything is bigger in Texas, and this event doesn’t fall short! On Saturday, February 20, there will be 28 bands on five stages, lots of beads flying around and all the classic Mardi Gras type drinks you would expect. The music is Texas Red Dirt and country style, all in a 90,000 square foot automobile building at the historic fairgrounds of Dallas. The event will be held regardless of the weather and it is expected that 10,000 people will attend!
