Between over-packed schedules and play dates, sticky messes and scraped knees, late nights and early morning wake-up calls, you’ve been through it all. Some days it may seem the minute you even start thinking about a little “me” time, disaster strikes, and that’s only when everyone in the household is healthy! Add a sick little one to the mix and nothing else seems to matter.

And if you are also a working mom, when you add a sick kid to the mix, it completely throws off all schedules and routines.  As part of their Sick just got real.TM campaign, the pediatric brands of Pfizer Consumer Healthcare have released a video depicting a small glimpse of what moms may feel and experience when their child is under the weather.

I’m sure we can all share with you one of those Sick just got real™ moments!  In fact, this past spring break, I experienced one of these memorable incidents on our way up to a cabin in Oklahoma!  Imagine 4 kids and a dog in the car packed full of camping gear and a week’s supply of food… then suddenly my youngest one says he is going to be sick and before I can even react, there is a mess everywhere.  Then the chaos ensues when the dog wants to get in the mix and we are parked by the road in rural Oklahoma with nothing but baby wipes to clean up the damage! But like every mother I know, I managed the situation the best I could and we ended up laughing about it later on during the trip!

Want to find ways to help if Sick just got real.™  hits your family?   You can find some great sick hacks like making Sneeze & Stow Tissue Box at the Sick just got real.™ website.  Don’t forget to pick up some Pfizer Consumer Healthcare products available at your local grocery store to help you be prepared when Sick just got real™ at your house!

We are lucky enough to sponsor a giveaway where Pfizer is gifting one lucky reader (US only) with a $25.00 Visa gift card! Just leave a comment below with one of your best Sick just got real™ moments and we will notify a winner by email next week!

My #sickjustgotreal moment lasts all year as I am a PreK teacher 🙂 When it rains it pours and day after day of sick students (colds, flu, allergies, stomach bugs) is awful.

  11. Laurajj says:

My #sickjustgotreal was when our little one woke up with Croup for the first time! Oh man…scared us to death the wheezing and horrible cough. It was the middle of winter and very cold…put him in the car and went to ER…by the time we got there…he was tons better! The doctor said with the croup coughs…the cold air makes them better. So he said the next time he gets that…take him outside of its cold out….or sit in the bathroom with a warm shower running and let him breathe the air in.

  12. Giant Sis says:

I remember when I had the chicken pox when I was in 6th grade. It was miserable – and to top it off, it was over my birthday too! I was sad, itchy, and lonely. My best friend stopped by with balloons and made it better! Guess kids nowadays won’t have those problems with the vaccines they get. Lucky.

  13. Dawn Monroe says:

I remember when 4 of my older kids had chicken pox and I had an infant. Those were the days when the older generation advised you to expose your kids to chicken pox they even had parties. I still wonder if my mom exposed them on purpose.

  14. Emily Smith says:

My three boys have to share a room and they have a triple bunk. The oldest sleeps on top and one night he woke up just in time to throw up over the side, but it got on all three beds. It’s bad enough to deal with that stuff in the middle of the day, but in the middle of the night was a nightmare. I had to move all three of them into the living room at 2:30 in the morning so I could clean the mess and put their bedding in the wash. Over the next week, the sickness made its round through all five of us. It was like a puke apocalypse in our house. ((((shuddder)))) #sickjustgotreal

  15. Kelly D says:

#sickjustgotreal……..my little Drew constantly has a runny nose with his allergies…..
    its pretty bad some days…..
one day at the dining room table, his nose was just running away, he just kept on eating, YUCK
I immediately rose from the table and got him a box of tissue .
He now eats with a tissue box right next to his plate.
    Pretty gross, but very real…..

  18. Sara Cantor says:

#sickjustgotreal when my husband was driving my step-son through the mountains in Tennessee in a rental car he got car sick. Timing is evening!

  19. Jamie says:

#sickjustgotreal when my Dad kept feeding my toddler (who already had an upset stomach and wouldn’t eat anything) beef jerkey. She puked on the couch. Then we ran some errands and as we were pulling into the store parking lot she puked in the car. It was literally puddled in her seat and the floor and running down the back of my seat. My car smelled like jerkey and puke for a week.

  20. Rajee Pandi says:

#sickjustgotreal last month was so terrible he threw up lot and rolling on the floor holding his stomach 🙁

  23. I AM PUPSTER says:

Sick just got real when my two dogs found a kettle of chili leftover from some picnic at the park. They ate all of it before I could get up to them and 10 minutes later they are in the back of my SUV throwing it up.
Nearly 4 years later and SUV still smells like Chili Powder. Dreadful.

  24. Jessica S. says:

One time, our whole family was sick with the chicken pox…not fun!

  25. Brenda M says:

There are too many sick just got real stories to tell, but I have a similar one – youngest child threw up terribly while we were traveling near Sedona, AZ. I had already smelled a dirty diaper and we hadn’t found anywhere to stop while driving through the mountains. Finally arrive in the parking lot of a Dairy Queen and have to clean up the vomit and poop with just baby wipes when she really need a bath. We can laugh about it later and remind her of the memorable road trip.

  26. Renee Hester says:

Easter weekend and the little one was sick with a cold/cough or so I thought. She was pretty miserable. So she got better but the cough stuck around and after 10 days still coughing. During all this she gives her sickness to the big kid and she is coughing and sickly but still feeling okay to go to school, but this just happens to be BIG Test week. I take the little one in finally to see doctor after 10 days and she has bronchitis and pneumonia. Yuck! And here I thought it was just a cold. Antibotic and breathing treatments later she get better.
