It’s almost that time of year again- just one week until the State Fair of Texas is back! Celebrating 129 years of tradition, the 2015 exposition is themed “Passport to Texas” and opens Friday, September 25 in historic Fair Park. (Here is a list of current discount and deals as well!)

Even if you have been many times before, here is a list of new attractions that you have to see to believe!

Thrifty Thursdays~ Participating food vendors will be offering one of their signature menu items at a reduced price, ranging from mini versions to regular-size items every Thursday of the fair. Perfect for trying something new or for families looking for new ways to save while still getting to enjoy their fair food favorites.

Lone Star Horse Spectacular~ In this new production, visitors get the chance to celebrate the rich history of our great state and each of its six flags as they are paraded through the Pan Am Arena! Themed to traditional Texas music, the event features professional riders on horseback, performing in coordination with the historical narrative.

Mattress Firm Illumination Sensation~ Set along a scenic reflecting pool, this nightly celebration has been completely remastered with dancing waters and twice the pyro than ever before. This sensational 16-minute production of synchronized pyrotechnics and special effects begins nightly at 8 p.m. along the Esplanade. Leading up to the after-dark extravaganza, the ZuZu African Acrobats will provide daily performances on the all-new Mattress Firm Stage on the Esplanade.

Big Tex’s Farmyard~ This fan favorite is back but in a totally new location with even more activities and learning opportunities. Learn all about agriculture and its impact on the state of Texas, from the importance of farming and ranching to the process of raising and caring for animals. This kid-friendly attraction is now conveniently located near the Kids’ Boardwalk, which made its fair time debut last year.

Big Texas Music~ This 2015 exhibit honors well-known Texas artists through memorabilia, audiovisual displays and social interactives, as well as daily live music performances from a wide variety of artists. It will also feature both artists who were born in Texas and those who have lived here and consider themselves natives. And falling in line  with the Hall of State’s ode to Texas music, Mundo Latino is proud to present “Guitarras de Mexico” as its special exhibition this year. Housed inside the Women’s Museum, this year’s annual exhibit focuses on the history of guitars, guitar makers and guitarists.

Beer HavenMaking its State Fair of Texas debut this year, this is touted as the world’s largest bar on wheels – a 53-foot-long truck serving a wide variety of craft beers on tap. This mobile brewery will feature 60 different beers on tap every day, including a special collection of fair-themed brews like a cotton candy-flavored ale. As an added attraction on weekends, this venue features live music and entertainment, including visits from brewers sharing tricks of the trade and performing beer-making demos every Saturday!

Rooster Crowing Contest~ This crazy new attraction will bring spectators to their feet as competitors fight for the highest number of cock-a-doodle-doos! Open to all ages, this competition gives participants a limited period of time to coerce their roosters to crow, with the winning title going to the competitor with the most number of crows. Visitors can check out this farm frenzy on Sunday, October 18th in the Poultry Barn.
