2017 Dallas Fan Expo

This last weekend (March 31st – April 2nd), the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas was PACKED with vendors selling vintage and collectibles, tv and movie fanatics dressed as their favorite characters, delicious and unique foods, celebrity appearances, workshops, costume contests and much, much more.  I (Jeni) was lucky enough to attend the event on Sunday, April 2nd for the last day of the 2017 Dallas Fan Expo, and thought I would share my experience!

Perhaps I should have listened more carefully when Pete Delkus was cautioning the DFW area about the severe thunderstorms, but I was too excited to get to the event.  Luckily, the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center is only about a 5 minute drive from my house, but I was concerned about the fan turn-out because of the storms.

Thunder was rolling and the rain was pouring down when we arrived.  But this sure didn’t stop the fans from showing up to the event! There were thousands of people there on the last day – families with toddlers and babies, groups of teenagers, couples dressed up in crazy costumes, elderly fanatics – this event drew in just about every demographic in DFW.  And we all came for one reason – our love of the entertainment world. I would definitely go again on the last day, as I am not a big crowd person, and there were fewer people on Sunday. Plus, crazy Texas weather didn’t seem to bother anyone!

2017 Dallas Fan Expo

Sci-Fi to horror, and anime to pop culture gaming, this event definitely delivered more than expected.  There were over 600 vendors with their shops set up, selling everything from t-shirts and vintage toys to costumes and autographed paintings of movie characters.  In fact, my boyfriend even found a Star Wars toy he’d been looking for, for nearly 15 years, and got an amazing deal on it!  The shops were my favorite part of the expo, because they literally had EVERYTHING!  I could have spent all day shopping 🙂  And, a lot of the shops offered 50% off the listed price, because it was the last day of the Expo!

2017 Dallas Fan Expo Meat Loaf

There was a huge section marked off for celebrity autographs, including the final appearance in Dallas for Batman’s Adam West & Burt Ward.  Although I didn’t get any autographs, it was really cool to walk by the tables and get a quick glance at some of my favorite celebrities. Meat Loaf even looked over at me, I waved and he winked! 🙂

2017 Dallas Fan Expo Stan Lee

Stan Lee was making his final appearance, and even offered a Q&A, plus autographs.  The line was HUGE for this legend of comics, and we knew he had arrived when the crowd around his booth went WILD!  The energy was really amazing and as I looked around, I didn’t see a single person that wasn’t smiling and trying to get a glimpse of him.

2017 Dallas Fan Expo

From Star Wars to The Walking Dead, and cosplay to anime, this event blew my mind.  It was filled with excitement and fantasy, stars and legends, shops and wonderful food, dance parties, speed dating, premiere screenings, board game tournaments, workshops & seminars….. PHEW!  I love that it was a family-friendly event, and enjoyed seeing the children enjoy it as much as I did.

If you missed the Fan Expo this year, I highly recommend checking it out next year.  You will not be disappointed, and will probably want to get tickets to go for more than one day, as they have new and exciting features each day. I am really excited to see what celebrity appearances they will have lined up, and enjoy another amazing day of the Dallas Fan Expo in 2018.
