Fill your three-day holiday weekend with winter wonder-ful adventures at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science during Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend (Jan. 14-16). Bring the kids for engaging activities and programming, extended hours, 3D films and more! It’s also the final weekend to “ooh and ah” at nearly 30 magnificent and massive gems in Giant Gems of the Smithsonian, which closes Jan. 17

Also delivering some serious sparkle is the public debut of the Perot Museum’s newest gem acquisition, a nearly 600-pound, heart-shaped amethyst from Brazil, on display in the Lyda Hill Gems and Minerals Hall at select times through Jan. 17.

Tap into your inner sleuth at Discovery Days: Forensics on Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Gather evidence, use deductive reasoning, practice problem solving skills and learn about forensic science while examining spy technology and chromatography.

Then catch a 3D film (or three!) – Earthflight 3D, Extreme Weather 3D or the new Electropolis 3D – at The Hoglund Foundation Theater, a National Geographic Experience.

Throughout the weekend, enjoy amaze-your-brain activities, live “science on the spot” demos, bookworm readings, science trivia and drop-in activities such as boo bubbles and robotics at select times on SaturdaySunday and Monday. Plus, little ones ages 5 and under can enjoy “science through a magnifying glass” crafts in the Moody Family Children’s Museum daily until 3 p.m. (See below for a detailed schedule.) All activities are free to Perot Museum members and included with general admission for non-members.

Take advantage of extended hours Saturday and Sunday when the Museum stays open until 6 p.m.!

For more info and to purchase your tickets** in advance, go to perotmuseum.org.

**   General exhibit hall admission prices are $19 for adults (18-64), $13 for seniors (65+), $12 for youth (2-17), and free for children under 2. General admission is always free for members. Admission to the theater is $6 for a short film (20 minutes) and $8 for a long film (40 minutes) for adults, seniors and youth. For members, admission to the theater is $5 (short film) and $6 (long film). All children under 2 are free.
