Wow! It’s already September – can you believe it!? Welcome to the onset of a new season! So, what trends can we expect this month? What normally goes on sale, has bigger discounts and can be stocked up on in September? You may be surprised! After Labor Day sales are a huge deal this month.
This is the time of year when stores start clearing shelves and making room for holiday items. That’s right, Christmas stuff is due to be set out in the next two weeks! We will start seeing these things on the shelves as early as this month! It’s kind of a hodge-podge mix of stuff this month – we call it the “weird month.”
It’s the last bit of Back to School sales and Summer closeouts at the very beginning of this month, so watch for BIG clearances! Check your coupon binders for coupons related to school items, because they will be expiring and will make for some great deals with discounted items.
End of Summer Sales
Labor Day marks the end of the summer season, which means amazing liquidation deals all weekend long! Stores are looking to get rid of their summer stock quickly, to prepare for the flurry of new inventory. So, what’s actually on sale. and what are GOOD buys?
- Electronics like computers and laptops! We will see some really nice bundles this month (buy a laptop, get a bag for free, purchase a tablet, get a memory stick….)
- Outdoor furniture (as we mentioned above) will be on HUGE discounts during Labor Day sales. Watch for savings on average of 60 – 70%! This will include ceiling fans and grills, too!
- If you’re a gardener, you’ll be happy to see nice deals on shrubs and trees.
- Canning equipment and supplies will need to be cleared off the shelves, and Labor Day sales is the perfect outlet for retailers.
- Golf equipment is something we typically see on sale for this holiday, as are Winter vacation packages. Who knew!?

We will also always see items like condiments, hamburger buns, chips and soda go on sale early in the month for big 3-day weekend celebrations, so watch for those! As of the last week in August, we’ll have already gotten some killer deals on charcoal, and that will continue through the first 2 weeks of September.
This is the best time of the year (besides early Summer) to grab some incredible deals on tents, outdoor sporting gear, hunting equipment, camping items, sleeping bags, tents and more! Since Texas weather still permits a lot of outdoor activity during September, we are in luck! This is the last hoorah for campers, this month, and retailers know it! Watch for great bargains as we post them on the blog, and find them in sporting good stores!
The temperatures begin to drop, and so do the prices on outdoor products like weed-eaters, lawn mowers, pressure washers, blowers, outdoor hoses, sprinkler heads and anything else lawn related! Included in this sort of sale will be outdoor lighting options like LED string lights, stick lights and solar lights for your walkway. As the nights get longer and cooler, these will be more prevalent on the shelves. You’ll find these items next to the outdoor furniture, which we already mentioned will be on its way out of stores this month. That’s great news for us!
Picnics & BBQs
This is the last month we’ll get to spend those great evenings outside grilling, and having picnics in the parks. Typically, we see great deals on paper goods, table clothes, napkins, plastic utensils and more picnic related items this month. Great coupons usually pop up during the first week of September, to help celebrate Labor Day; since these items don’t go bad, it’s a great idea to stock up on them while their prices are at an all time low. These sales will also include seasonal small appliances like ice cream makers and pitchers. The end of September is a GREAT time to buy a grill or BBQ accessories, if you’ve been holding off! Grab it at its lowest price and store it away until the sun starts shining again in the Spring!
Baby Safety Month
This month is Baby Safety Month. That means we’ll see great bargains and special discounts on baby gear like monitors, latches, gates, crib protectors, etc. Anything baby safety related will be on sale, plus we usually see some high value coupons with some great drugstore deals on baby items, too! Watch the blog for great samples and freebies from big name companies. This is THE month to stock up on diapers and wipes.
Grocery Store Deals
Watch for great coupons popping up all over with nice sales to match on items like canned beans, canned veggies, canned soups and canned chili! Fall typically brings us stockpile deals on these with tons of coupons, beginning in the first week of September! Remember that 50¢ per can is a pretty good stock up price for these. Cereals are still hitting the shelves hard, with a last attempt to get you to stock up for the kids during the school year. We’ll continue to see great sales and coupons for all types of cereal. We like to pay about a buck per box, so keep that in mind. Seasoning Mixes & Crock Pot Helpers are also huge this month. All of those comfort foods we love will be on sale, and so will their counterparts.
Prices will always be the lowest on produce that’s in season. Eating locally grown food also cuts out the cost of shipping that’s often built into the price of fresh food. Here’s some seasonal produce that you can expect to find at a great price over the next month or two:
* What foods can you freeze to save money and time? You’ll be surprised!

- Chili Peppers

- Pears (Asian and Bartlett)
