Perot Museum Kicks Off Memorial Day Weekend with Summer Activities, Discounts & More

Get ready for a rawring adventure at the Perot Museum! It’s the summer of the dinosaur and the Perot Museum has new dinosaur experiences throughout the building, plus extended hours, hands-on activities, and more.

A don’t-miss highlight is the newly reimagined Being Human Hall, which underwent a major renovation and now features twice as many interactive displays and dozens of experiences all offered in English and Spanish. Visitors can witness one of the world’s only displays of a human brain with a still-intact spinal cord, try on a prosthetic running blade or send brain wave messages to fire off pulsing lights by merely thinking. A virtual reality experience transports guests into the South African cave system where internationally renowned paleoanthropologist Dr. Lee Berger discovered a new species of human relative. A dozen authentic stone tool artifacts (some more than a million years old!) are displayed by a full figure of “Lucy,” the famous Australopithecus afarensis.

After exploring what it means to be human, visitors can chill out with a 3D film including Super Dogs 3DWild Africa 3D: Nature’s Wonderland and Apollo 11 3D.

From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day (May 24-Sept. 3), veterans, active and retired U.S. military personnel, and first responders will receive complimentary general admission plus $3 off general admission for their immediate family members (up to six people). In addition, the Community Partners Ticket Program returns to provide greater access to lower-income families, offering $1 general admission for guests who qualify based on need.

FREE Admissiom For Military During Memorial Day Weekend at Dallas Arboretum

In honor of our armed forces, the Arboretum offers FREE admission into the main garden on May 25-27 to active duty members and veterans of the U.S. military and to first responders (must show valid photo ID). There will also be special activities, which are free with paid garden admission.

Kick off summer with $2 hot dogs and root beer floats. Emporium Pies’ ice cream truck, complimentary face painters and a petting zoo are onsite all weekend from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Enjoy craft beer samples from noon-3 p.m. at A Tasteful Place and live music every day at the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage and Lawn from 2-4 p.m. The Red Wine Band kicks off the weekend bringing their Texas Country sound to the garden on Saturday. On Sunday, dance with one of Dallas’ most popular dance bands, Downtown Fever, an Emerald City Party Band. 3K Sisters, an indie folk-pop family band delights with their unique sound and talented multi-instrumentalist band members, on Monday from noon to 2 p.m.

For $3 extra, visit the the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden. Celebrate Memorial Day by learning the science behind some of the symbols and traditions of the holiday. A special lab brings the red, white and blue to the garden in exciting ways and the OmniGlobe glows in this holiday celebration.

Wildflower Arts & Music Festival at Galatyn Park This Weekend

More than 20 musicians and bands will perform during the festival, which was founded to celebrate the wildflowers planted in Richardson. Headlining acts include Neon Trees, Fitz and the Tantrums, Judah and the Lion, the Jacksons and Aeromyth. In addition to a battle of the bands, songwriters workshop and songwriters contest, a children’s area, a marketplace, and eats and drinks will also be part of the festival.

Single day admission will be $30 for Friday and Saturday and $15 for Sunday. A three-day pass is available for $65. Kids admission is $5 for children ages 5-12 and free for children 4 and younger. Parking is free. Or take DART Red Line trains to the Galatyn Park station.

FREE ‘Til Midnight at the Nasher Going on Today
